Performance of Spa Filtration
Because we at Lion Spas believe that the water should always be clean and fresh we pump the water from the main pump through the filtration system. Lion Spas use the weir door filtration system that accomodates 2 separate 50 Square foot filters. That is a total of 100 square feet! These filters are easily accessed for cleaning.

As a standard feature on all of our spas we include an 88 watt 'circulation' pump.
This tiny pump continuously operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year and because it is so small it consumes very little electricity. (Energex has calculated, based on a rate of 14c per kw hour, that it will cost $107.12 per year to run.)
| The smart thing is, any heat generated is returned to the water circulating around the spa and this is one of the reasons these spas are so much less expensive to run.
| As this pump is quietly circulating it simultaneously performs a number of tasks. First the water passes through one of the 50 Square foot filters, so the spa is filtered 24 hours a day, and then it passes over the heater elements which will only turn on if required. This means the spas main pump does not have to be continuously starting and stopping to either run its filter cycles or bring the water temperature to its set temperature. So here again there is further savings in electricity.

To have the very best hygene in the water available (and help save on the cost of chemicals) an ozonator is optional in this circulation. An ozonator needs to be operating for the majority of the day to be most effective and with this system it operates for 24 hours a day and not for the few hours it would in a system without a continuous circulation pump. So once again we see more savings. As an option Lion spas can fit an ozonator.

The very best way to fit an ozonator system is
- fit it on a continuous circulation pump (which we have)
- have the water running through the filter, through the circ pump, through the heater, into an ozone mixing vessel to have the ozone throughly mixed into the water (any excess gas directed through a degas filter and harmlessly away) and finally into the spa.
